1) British Transport Commission. Created by the Transport Act 1947 to own and operate the railways and canals and some docks, road haulage (other than local journey operations), bus and coach services and London Transport.

Proved to be unmanageable and was wound up by the Transport Act 1962, its assets being transferred to the British Railways Board (BRB), the London Transport Board, the British Docks Board and the British Waterways Board. Road haulage and bus services were transferred to a new Transport Holding Company (THC).
