Duty to give information

1) The driver of a vehicle who is involved in a road accident (where injury or damage is caused, other than to the driver himself or his vehicle) must give to anybody having reasonable grounds for requiring it, his own name and address, the name and address of the vehicle owner and the registration number of the vehicle.

If this is not done at the scene, the accident must be reported to the police as soon as reasonably practicable but in any case within 24 hours. A driver who is alleged to have committed an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988 must give his name and address when required to do so by a police constable. Failure to give such information is an offence.
