Grandfather rights

1) Term representing a situation where new legislation is applied (eg for professional competence and for large goods vehicle driver licensing) and it becomes necessary to include persons who were already qualified.

These were said to be qualified under grandfather rights (ie they already satisfied the requirements and did not need to sit and pass an examination or pass a new test).
