PTE

1) Passenger Transport Executive. Created under the 1968 Transport Act and charged with establishing a coordinated and integrated public passenger transport system to meet the needs of the local area.

The PTEs are controlled by the PTA. PTEs are: CENTRO (West Midlands PTE); GMPTE (Greater Manchester PTE); Merseytravel (Merseyside PTE); METRO (West Yorkshire PTE); NEXUS (Tyne & Wear PTE); SYPTE (South Yorkshire PTE); and SPT (Strathclyde PTE).
