Transit

1) (1) Means carrying people or things from one place to another (ie in transit through - passing through). Used in connection with road haulage permits, etc - needed in some cases to transit (ie pass through) intermediate countries. (2) Generic term for a van - any van, in the same way that 'all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers' (which in fact they are not).

Everybody knows and loves the Transit van - conveyor of all things for all men. Product of Ford Motor Company.
