SWL

1) Safe working load. The pre-determined safe level above which loading and lifting equipment must not operate. Indicated on cranes, hoists, lifting machines, vehicle hydraulic tailboards, etc by means of a plate where the driver/operator can readily see it.

Usually a safety warning sound is emitted when the level is neared or exceeded, at which point damage may occur or the machine may collapse/turn over with a risk of injury to the operator and others.
