Stock in transit/clearing 1) All materials, components or finished products in transit from one point in a supply chain to another supply chain destination, expressed in quantitative or financial terms. (2) The time taken to move goods physically between different locations in a supply chain or laterally to another facility. Used in connection with road haulage permits, etc - needed in some cases to transit (ie pass through) intermediate countries. Mass transit 1) Subway (ie underground) or surface heavy or light rail system for moving large numbers of people quickly over relatively short distances (eg commuter traffic). Returnable transit packaging (RTP) 1) Packaging that can be returned and re-used. Also known as re-usable secondary packaging (RSP). Community Transit 1) Customs system for dealing with the movement of goods between EU member states where Customs duty barriers no longer exist and where common tariffs are applied against non-EU goods. See also Customs union. Rapid transit 1) Passenger transport system (usually rail) designed to provide quick journeys. Normally segregated from other traffic. |
