1) A new term introduced in the late 1990s to describe the provision of additional hire vehicles (usually with driver) on a short/medium-term basis to supplement core owned-fleet at times of increased trading. BRS Ltd, the Volvo-owned former NFC road haulage company and now a major truck rental operator, is a key player in this market.
