Intermodal vehicle

1) In the UK a heavy vehicle (artic or drawbar combination) allowed to run at 44 tonnes gross weight provided it is engaged solely on intermodal operations to or from a rail terminal.

Intermodal

1) Transport of goods using a number or variety of modes (ie road, rail sea, air). Mainly the combination of road/rail for which many systems are being developed in Europe and elsewhere.
