1) Generally means big four clearing banks (Barclays, Lloyds TSB, National Westminster and HSBC) which offer cheque clearing accounts as well as full range of other banking services.

High cube

1) (Also Hi-cube) Vehicle body providing high capacity for bulk/ light loads, usually mounted on small-wheeled chassis. See also Maxi Cube and Supercube.

HIDX

1) High intensity discharge xenon (as in xenon discharge headlamps). New type of vehicle headlight, using iodine bulbs giving an intense bluish light, designed to give three times more light than conventional halogen headlamps and to cast a longer, wider beam of light, but causing less dazzle.

Hi Viz

1) Abbreviated terminology for high visibility. Usually referring to safety clothing as particularly required to be worn under the Docks Regulations 1988, for example.

HFC

1) (1) Hydrofluorocarbons. Substance used as a refrigerant which is the least ozone harmful out of the range of CFCs and HCFCs used in such applications. (2) Hydrogen fuel cell. Environmentally friendly source of power for road vehicles.

Height marking

1) Indication of overall travelling height as per the C&U regulations. Legal requirement for marking of height where vehicles carry containers, skips, engineering plant or equipment.
