Groupage

1) The business of accepting individual consignments to be combined with others to make up economic bulk loads for onward transportation. Also the business of dismantling full loads for individual consignment deliveries (see also break-bulk). Also known in modern parlance as shared user distribution.

Gross weight (vehicle/axle)

1) The total weight of a vehicle/trailer or vehicle/trailer combination transmitted to the road by all the wheels. Includes load, driver/passenger, loose equipment and fuel.

Green Paper

1) Government document setting out preliminary ideas on a topic or topics for consultation with interested parties (usually the precursor to the publication of a White Paper followed by a Bill and subsequently an Act of Parliament). See also White Paper.

Green card

1) International motor insurance green card. Issued by insurance companies to cover vehicle travelling abroad. Ensures that motor vehicle policies provide full cover in the event of an accident abroad.
